The Freelance Economy Is Worth $580 Billion. Most of It Is Still Invisible to AI

The global freelance platforms market is worth close to $9 billion this year alone, sitting inside a broader independent-work economy estimated at over $580 billion annually (estimates vary by research firm and methodology, see sources below). Over 1.5 billion people worldwide do some form of independent work. In India alone, that workforce is growing at roughly 21 percent a year, among the fastest rates anywhere.

I've spent years standing in front of rooms full of exactly these people, as a Microsoft Certified Trainer and Google Certified Cloud Instructor training consultants, freelancers, and independent experts across a global audience. And here's what I noticed, over and over, long before I built anything: almost none of them had an online presence that anything other than a human could actually read.

A LinkedIn profile is text for people. A PDF resume is text for people.
